How we're evolving from street-side taxiing into something built for St Helena's future.

Change doesn't always come all at once. Sometimes it arrives the way it does here on St Helena — steadily, with purpose, and with a view to something better on the horizon.

After years of providing taxi services across the island, Williams Taxis & Tours is entering a new chapter. We're proud to announce that we are transitioning our focus away from general day-to-day street taxiing, and towards becoming a dedicated transport provider — one equipped to serve the growing and evolving needs of both the local community and the island's visitor economy.

What's changing, and why

The decision didn't come lightly. Daily taxiing has been the backbone of what we do, and the community has supported us through it. But as St Helena grows as a destination, and as demand shifts, we've recognised that our Transit buses and vehicle capacity can do far more good when deployed strategically — for group transport, planned bookings, and coordinated services — rather than ad hoc kerb-side pickups.

Day-to-day local taxiing will be winding down progressively. However, it won't disappear entirely. Pre-bookings will still be accepted for local taxi services, subject to availability — so if you need a ride and plan ahead, we're still here for you. What's changing is the walk-up, daily on-demand side of things.

Moving under the Destination St Helena Umbrella

We're particularly excited to announce that Williams Taxis & Tours is moving under the Destination St Helena umbrella as an internal transport service provider. This means that visitors coming to the island through Destination St Helena's DMC packages will have access to dedicated transport — from airport transfers and touring, through to group movements across the island.

This partnership puts us at the heart of St Helena's visitor experience in a meaningful and coordinated way. For guests arriving at HLE, discovering Napoleon's exile at Longwood, or exploring the wonders of our endemic wildlife, Williams will be the name that gets them there comfortably and on time.

If you're a local resident who has relied on us for everyday taxiing — we thank you sincerely for that trust. We'd encourage you to get in touch and register for pre-booking, so we can ensure its a trip we can accomodate, and to be there when you need us most.

Planning ahead will become more important, and we'll do our best to accommodate regular and priority requests wherever we can.
